ayh did a good job of showing how grief is not just missing the person but all the associated things you experience with/through that person. Michelle had to create her own relationships with hmart, Korea, etc as an individual without her mom which is its own sort of trauma and growth

I finished this book in a total of 3 sittings, really got drawn in! The story really flowed for me and I kinda felt like I was watching a movie. Jbrekkie is so great. Two main thoughts (1) I am thinking a lot about her decisions to romanize all the Korean words & also about how only basic Korean culture was touched on! I also want to know more about her relationship to her dad's (and her own) whiteness. And then (2) this rly hit a personal note for me, remembering a lot about my moms best friend who passed w cancer too & watching that happen

I feel like this sums up closest to how my mom cared for me most significantly. She also verbally affirmed the love but this is the kind of care that has molded a lot of who I am!
